Witty Students and A Happy Teacher

the messy table where the red ink spills
So I was checking papers, practically wrapping up what's left of the semester (I can't wait for this job to be done).  seriously being a teacher is not easy from papers, lesson plans and appearances that you make every day it takes so much energy in you that by the end of the day you're dead tired even if you only had just two class a day. How much more an entire week of full scheduled teaching.

Anyway, now back to checking papers. I was giving grades for one assignment which they submitted. Basically it was an easy assignment--a checklist and a very short essay about how daily conversations become essential  for us individuals.   I particularly told them not to make their answers so long to lessen their agony as medical students (well you know, they are more science than language majors so the general idea is that they find a hard time explaining things in words and paper especially when it is essay).

Basically, my two Oral Communication classes had practically gave the same answer in a very short short and only a few answers did impress me well  here goes:

Q1: What do you think is the importance of making conversations with other people?

S1: " No man is an island. People are social creatures and need to make interactions.  Without someone to talk to a person may start to lose his mind else he creates an imaginary friend to compensate for the lack of interactions."

S2: " Man was not created to be alone and to ponder the mysteries of life only to keep his insights to himself. Man thrives on exchanging ideas with other human beings. Social interaction is his bread and butter as man is a social being...
Without conversation, it would be very difficult for him to express himself because non verbal communication is NEVER an adequate substitute for a meaningful conversation."

S3: "Conversing with other people boosts our social aspects in life. It a means to express ourselves, gather information from others, and make friends.  It is a way for a person to know the real you and you with them.
How would the world look like if we don't converse with others? Would it go peaceful?  Would there be stability?
We do have other means to communicate like the body language, sign language, and the non verbal actions we use to show what we want to say. However, with this we cannot properly communicate what we mean. There will be a higher percentage of misunderstandings if this goes on.

It is not hard to start a conversation, a simple 'hi' will do."

S4 "making conversations are vital because it is the lifeblood of our relationship to other people, even sign language or eye contact couldn't compensate with verbal communication."

Q2: How do you make conversations?

S5: "You should start slowly, otherwise people will call you "weirdo". You should talk kindly to other people else there will be lesser chance to communicate with others. Respect people's opinion when they share their ideas with you otherwise they'll call you a hypocrite. Don't act nervous when you talk, feel confident most of the time and look them eye to eye. You may talk about your personal life later on but don't talk about it if your newly introduced.
Just go slow and be careful."

See? I bid to correct presumptions that kids majoring in science and technology do not have sparks of being good writers or essayists.  The idea is simple you start with a thought then be Deviant in expressing it.
